Finding Your Design Style Takes Time
If you’ve ever felt pressure to “get it right” when decorating your home, you’re not alone. We live in a world where social media makes it look like everyone else’s house came together overnight—and perfectly. But after working in interior design for over 20 years, I can say with confidence that figuring out your design style takes time, and that's OK! Remember—Rome wasn’t built in a day. It took years, and look how breathtaking it is today. (Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting you take a thousand years to finish your living room… but you get the point.) Your home deserves a little
patience. Let it evolve piece by piece until it’s something you truly love. Finding your style shouldn't be rushed and it’s certainly not something you should stress over.

Most likely you won't get it right the first time
You can't be afraid to make mistakes. You’ll make choices you love and others you regret, but don't sweat it. Even professional designers make their fair share of mistakes, so don’t let the fear of messing up hold you back. Every “oops” teaches you something new and brings you closer to a beautiful home.

Don't rush it
One of the biggest mistakes you can make is rushing into a style just because it’s trending. Trends come and go, but your home should reflect you. Give yourself permission to experiment and think outside the box. Live with paint samples taped to the wall for a week. Try a new pillow or piece of decor, and see how it feels in your space. Rearrange furniture. Swap things out. Just slow down and enjoy the process.

Embrace the “in-between” stage
Don’t be afraid of that slightly mismatched, unfinished, “still figuring it out” moment. This is where you can discover what you truly like. Spend more time researching, collecting inspirational photos, and imagining how you want your space to feel before committing to big changes.

Get together and talk it out
Don’t forget the value of conversation. Friends and family can surprise you with thoughtful advice or hard-learned lessons from their own decorating adventures. They might see something you’ve missed or help you think of your space in a new way.
In the end, creating a home you love isn’t about perfection, it’s about letting it grow with you—one thoughtful, imperfect, and authentic step at a time. So enjoy the process, embrace the journey, and enjoy watching your style unfold.
